
Workflow - Songwriting
- Create the musical idea (guitar or piano or vocals)
- Write the lyrics (poem)
- Write the music (chords for verse, chorus and bridge)
- Arrange the intro, verse, chorus, bridge and ending
- Match the lyrics to the music and adjust key for vocalist
- Setup the drum track or use drum machine for recording using correct tempo
- Play the bass guitar to the drum machine or metronome
- Play the rhythm guitar to the bass track and drum machine
- Play the keyboards to the guitar tracks and drum machine
- Sing the vocals while listening to all of the audio tracks using headphones
- Play the lead guitar to the drum machine, audio and vocal tracks
- Upload all tracks except drums to the PC
- Create drum track on the PC according to DAW drum tempo
- Download the drum track from PC to DAW
- Mix tracks on DAW
- Master tracks on DAW
- Create CD using DAW
- Review on different CD players and re-mix and re-master if necessary
- Copy master CD to PC
- Add track artist information to CD
- Create CD from PC using LightScribe to add artist image and text to CD
NOTE: There are many ways to write songs but this is the basic workflow that we
employ. We use this approach because it is more productive and conducive to our studio.
